Many advance fee fraud (”419″) spam emails and all advance fee fraud letters contain a telephone number for contacting the sender. In most cases these involve mobile phones, but fixed lines are used too.
The most common scam involving Senegalese telephone numbers involves a girl (usually from Liberia) who supposedly lives in a refugee camp in Senegal. Her father left her a fortune, which she needs your help to claim via a lawyer. Also involved is a pastor or reverend and a bank or security company.
The catch is that the lawyer and the bank/security company want your money and the inheritance doesn’t exist. All parties may be played by one or two persons. Don’t fall for the pretty pictures, the romantic language or the big figures in the bank statements
